Hello I'm Jennifer Kaye.
I'm completely opposed to genetic engineering and selection. However, when my husband, Ryan, and I found out that we both carried the same rogue gene condition, he persuaded me to undergo superovulation when we started a family to make sure that our child did not inherit Friedreich's ataxia. I finally agreed to screen out the gene for Friedreich's ataxia, but I insisted that we would then pick an embryo at random. However, Ryan went behind my back and picked a specific embryo which became my son Mark.

I'm furious that my husband "picked out" our baby without my consent. Of course I love my son, but I think that perfect health is a totalitarian concept and such selection reflects a society which has become completely obessed with perfection.
